Strand Project Survey

The Strand Project needs to do some clarification of parts of our Cultural Spaces application. What we need from the community is for potential users of the Strand to fill out a User Survey so we can compile specific information. It should only take about fifteen minutes of your time. This can be programming you are currently producing or this can be programming that you might move into the Strand. This can be anything from classes, rehearsals, performances, cabarets, theatre, business meetings, fundraisers, dances or anything else you might imagine renting space for. There is a place in the survey to distinguish whether it is projected or real, but both are useful to us. You can download it here or email brandonfolkfestival@gmail.com if you have any trouble or questions.  When you have it completed please send it to this address - brandonfolkfestival@gmail.com. We’d like to get these back in as soon as possible so we can resubmit our application asap. Thanks for your patience, support and just a little more paperwork!

2012 Headliner Announcement!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Brandon Folk, Music & Art Festival is proud to make the first in a series of announcements on this year’s headliners.  Academy Award Nominated, Grammy winner and Folk legend Judy Collins will headline Sunday’s programming at this year’s festival, taking place July 19th to the 22nd.

Sunday, the 22nd will feature Judy Collins in an evening mainstage concert as well as an intimate workshop with members of the Emerging Artist and Mentorship programs.    Collins was at the centre of the folk scene in the 1960s and came into her own as her career progressed.  Her voice is one of the few that has survived and her live stage show features both an amazing range of songs and stories from her life.

This year the festival will roll out their line-up slowly so that each area of programming; dance, visual arts, literary, music, family programming and community development can enjoy the spotlight.

Our June Emerging Artist Showcase and Kick off concert as well as a series of workshops in literary, visual arts, dance and music will lead up to the festival.

Early Bird discount Advance tickets will go on sale in two weeks.  Check the website for and facebook page for details of locations.

Anyone interested in volunteering, taking part in the Emerging Artist or Mentoring Programs or in applying to play the festival can email: info@brandonfolkfestival.ca.

$10 off after a rainy afternoon

Rain can’t dampen the spirits of the Brandon Folk, Music and Art Festival.

Now that the clouds are moving on and the rain has passed, it’s time to heat up the main stage once again.

Bring a tarp or some plastic to sit on, as the grounds are still wet, but there are nine acts poised to take to the main stage tonight — and some dancing will dry you right out.

Plus, to make up for the poor weather, we’ve got a deal: $10 off weekend and evening passes!

That means you can get a weekend pass for just $60 and an evening pass for the rest of the night will run you only $25.

Can you beat that deal? Nine acts for $25. No, you can’t beat that deal. So why not beat a path on down to the southeast corner of the Keystone Centre.

Hot deal, hot acts — it’s better than whatever else you had planned.

Free Festival Preview Movie Night! Ferron: A Girl on the Road

Tuesday, July 12th at 7:30 PM, the Brandon Folk, Music and Art Festival will be presenting a free screening of the multi-award winning film, Ferron: Girl on a Road. The 2009 film will be shown at the BFMAF office at 130 10th St., in anticipation of Ferron’s upcoming BMFAF appearance. Part performance, part biography, the 2009 film traces the life, the songs, the loves, the heartbreaks and the pioneering path carved by a true folk legend. Intimate yet encompassing, this film is not simply a chronicle, but captures in word and song, the essence and soul of a visionary icon.
The screening will be a perfect primer for those attending Ferron’s rare Canadian performances and workshop at the festival.

Gourmet popcorn will be available but folks are welcome to bring their own cold drinks!
